Body of Fridley man found in Mississippi River
Authorities recovered the body of a 59-year-old Fridley man from the Mississippi River on Sunday afternoon.
Two canoeists near Riverfront Regional Park in Fridley saw a body about 2 p.m. and alerted authorities, a dispatcher for the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said.
The body was recovered later in the afternoon.
Authorities said the body appeared to have been in the water for several days and bore no visible wounds. Police said the man’s name would not be released until his relatives had been notified.
Riverfront Regional Park runs along the Mississippi River west of East River Road and south of Interstate Hwy. 694.
The sheriff’s department’s water rescue team accompanied Fridley police and fire in the search.
Two injured in Minneapolis stabbing
Two men were injured — one critically — when they were stabbed during a fight at a Minneapolis duplex early Sunday.
Twice earlier in the night, police had gone to the scene at 18th and Talmage Avenues SE on reports of loud music and partying, police Sgt. William Palmer said.
The fight broke out about 5:20 a.m.
When officers arrived, they learned that a third man had fired a shotgun into the air during the fight. He was arrested and booked on a weapons charge, Palmer said.
Police still were searching for the stabbing suspects.
Palmer said that one victim had life-threatening injuries, while the second was reported to be in stable condition.
