A 20-year-old Spring Valley, Wis., man was killed and his passenger seriously injured early Monday morning in downtown Minneapolis after their vehicle was struck by another whose driver was fleeing a state patrol-initiated traffic stop, according to authorities.
The trooper had stopped a vehicle driven by Yia Her, 34, St. Paul, about 1 a.m. for speed and suspicion of drunk driving. After initially stopping, Her fled the scene driving through downtown Minneapolis, the state patrol said,
The trooper attempted pursuit-intervention techniques, but Her allegedly continued to flee and crashed into the other vehicle at 4th Street SE and Central Ave.
The man who was killed was identified as Brody Sotona. His passeenger Connor Macklin, 24, Stillwater, was seriously injured. Her has non life-threatening injuries, police said.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
