Plenty of road construction around Twin Cities this weekend

Twin Cities motorists will encounter plenty of detours and lane closures this weekend.

Several road construction projects are nearly finished as summer wanes, but that won’t be any consolation around the metro this weekend. The cones will be out and several major lane restrictions and detours will be in place.

In downtown Minneapolis, the Twins have games Saturday and Sunday against the Chicago White Sox at Target Field. Extra patrols will be out throughout the Twin Cities looking for drunken drivers. The enforcement continues through September, so plan for a sober ride.

This is supposed to be the last weekend of total shutdowns on Hwy. 169 through Brooklyn Park, New Hope and Golden Valley. For the second weekend in a row, drivers in Burnsville and Lakeville will run into construction and bridge painting. Through Monday, southbound drivers on I-35 will have to endure a single lane from the I-35/35W/35E split to County Road 50.

Route changes take effect on several Minnesota Valley Transit Authority routes on Saturday.

MnDOT is reminding drivers to pay attention in work zones and follow the posted speed limits to keep the roads safe.
