COLD SPRING, Minn. — An 11-mile stretch of state highway officially gets designated the "Tom Decker Memorial Highway" next week in honor of the slain Cold Spring police officer.

The tribute is among the batch of new laws taking hold on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Transportation says the agency has been consulting with the city about designs for highway signs. But the expectation is that those will be installed at a later date along Highway 23 between Wakefield Township and Richmond in Stearns County.

Decker was shot to death last November while responding to a call in the central Minnesota city. Officials have yet to complete the investigation into his death.
