GREEN BAY, Wis. — Officials at the Brown County Central Library say books and booze don't mix. So they're banning all beverage containers from the library in downtown Green Bay.

Press-Gazette Media reports (http://gbpg.net/19EqmPf ) that patrons with a thirst for anything but knowledge soon will have to walk to the water fountain or step outside. It will be against the rules to consume any beverage from any kind of container in the library.

While alcohol consumption has never been allowed inside, Library Director Lynn Stainbrook says some people have been using coffee cups and water bottles for sneaking swigs of booze, and it's been causing problems.

Police say they're called to the library with some regularity on reports of drunkenness and other nuisance behaviors.

Smoking will also be banned everywhere on library grounds.
