Light rail service to be disrupted Saturday and Sunday

Last update: June 19, 2008 - 4:31 PM

A portion of the Hiawatha Light Rail line will be shut down Saturday and Sunday mornings to allow contractors building an apartment    in south Minneapolis to dig near the tracks, Metro Transit said.

Buses will transport riders between the 46th Street Station and Fort Snelling from 3 a.m. to noon Saturday and 3 to 10 a.m. Sunday. Trains will operate as normal elsewhere along the 11-mile line during those hours.

Full service along the line between the Mall of America and downtown Minneapolis will be available for fans heading to the Twins-Diamondbacks games Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon at the Metrodome, Metro Transit said.

The shutdown will allow builders putting up an apartment building near 54th Street and Minnehaha Av. S. to tap into a water main that runs near the tracks.
