A 19-year-old man was shot and wounded early Saturday outside an apartment complex in Hopkins.

The shooting occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on the south side of the building, at 1301 Hwy. 7, Sgt. Mike Glassberg of the Hopkins Police Department said.

Glassberg said the victim, who was visiting someone at the apartment, told police that he was shot by someone in a white car. He said there were several people in the car at the time.

"At this point, we don't know if the shooter had come out of the car or if it was a drive-by," Glassberg said. "It's not clear."

Glassberg said police haven't determined the motive for the shooting and are searching for those in the car.

Anyone with information is asked to call 763-525-6210.

The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where he was treated and later released.
