Soldiers from a Minnesota-based National Guard unit are scheduled to leave on Sunday for training and a one-year deployment to Afghanistan.

The Minnesota National Guard said 149 members of the Cambridge-based 850th Horizontal Engineer Company will repair roads and culverts and work with the Afghan National Army. They are expected to provide maintenance and hauling at several forward operating bases.

It will be the first deployment for three-quarters of the troops, which include 12 women. The company will deploy to Afghanistan following training at Fort Bliss, Texas. A departure ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at Cambridge High School.
