The effort to cut poverty

More than 400 service providers, policymakers and civic leaders will be in Bloomington today to discuss community-focused approaches to reduce poverty.

The third biennial Grassroots & Groundwork convention, hosted by the St. Paul-based Northwest Area Foundation, will have leaders from 20 local and national nonprofit agencies discussing effective strategies to help low-income communities and individuals.

The conference runs through Friday in the Sheraton Bloomington Hotel.
