Andover man pleads guilty to soliciting girl for sex on chatline

Last update: May 27, 2008 - 5:34 PM

Thomas R. Voyt, 55, tried to lure a 13-year-old girl to his house with promises of a sauna, a swimming pool and a bar. He told her he was 21 when they talked on the phone, court documents said.

Voyt of Andover pleaded guilty Tuesday to soliciting a child for sex.

According to the complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court, the girl had arranged to meet "Tommy" at a Burger King on Maryland Avenue in St. Paul on March 7.

The girl told police that she and "Tommy" had been chatting on the "Live Links" phone line for about a month. He often talked about sexually-explicit acts, the complaint said.

The girl and her friend ducked into the Burger King to call police when they saw "Tommy" following them in his pickup truck March 7.

Voyt's plea agreement calls for stay-of-imposition sentence and a maximum of 90 days in jail. The felony charge could be reduced to a misdemeanor if Voyt meets certain conditions.

District Judge Michael DeCourcey set sentencing for Aug. 6.
