Motorcyclist without helmet suffers severe head injuries after crash

Last update: May 27, 2008 - 9:12 AM

A traffic collision has left a motorcyclist in a Minneapolis hospital this morning with severe head injuries -- and he was not wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred Monday afternoon in Paynesville, the State Patrol said.

A van pulled out in front of the motorcycle at an intersection on the southeast side of town, causing the collision, the patrol said.

The motorcyclist, Charles T. Chastek, 35, of Litchfield, Minn., is being treated for head injuries at Hennepin County Medical Center and is in critical condition. The van's driver, Alyce M. Drimel, of Paynesville, was not hurt.
