Tanker, school bus collide in Blue Earth County

An empty tanker truck and a school bus collided this morning at an intersection in southern Minnesota, the State Patrol said. The two drivers were injured.

According to the patrol, the driver of the school bus was westbound on 119th Street and failed to yield to the tanker, which was  southbound on 581st Avenue. The school bus hit the tanker broadside around 10:40 a.m., the patrol said.

The  bus driver, a 57-year-old man from Good Thunder, Minn., was airlifted to Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato. His name was not released.

The truck driver, 66, from Blue Earth, Minn., was taken to the same hospital by ambulance. His name was not released.

The State Patrol and the Mapleton Police Department are investigating the crash.
