A worker was run over by a piece of industrial equipment and killed at a beet sugar plant about 100 miles west of the Twin Cities, authorities said Friday.

The victim, a 60-year-old man whose identity has yet to be released, was struck about 2:50 p.m. Thursday by a front-end loader outside at the Southern Minnesota Beat Sugar Cooperative, about 2 miles east of Renville, according to the Renville County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office said that visibility around the plant was poor at the time because of beet pulp being whipped up by high winds.
