Rallies highlight biking, walking to work

If you haven't left for the office yet, consider riding your bike today. It's Twin Cities Bike Walk Week and today commuters are challenged to pedal or walk to work.

Cities such Minneapolis, St. Paul and Anoka are holding celebrations this morning. An other events are scheduled for the remainder of the week. Here's a sampler of what's on tap:

Today

St. Paul: A downtown celebration running from 6:30-9 a.m. includes Rich Wieber's Bicycle Stunt Show, guest speakers and prize drawings in Rice Park, 4th and Washington Sts. Also a fitness and wellness fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the State Capitol complex, 75 W. Constitution Av.

Minneapolis: A rally from 6:30-9 a.m. on the Hennepin County Government Center plaza, 5th Street and 3rd Avenue S.

Anoka: A rally from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Anoka County Government Center Atrium, 2100 3rd Avenue.

St. Louis Park: Hoigaard's holds a free seminar called "Bike Maintenance 101" at 7 p.m., Miracle Mile Shopping Center, Hwy. 100 and Excelsior Blvd.

Friday

Minneapolis: Freewheel Midtown Bike Center Grand Opening, 7 a.m. The center at 10th and Chicago Avs. S. The center will offer services that include bike repairs, rentals, bathrooms, showers and bike parking bays, and quick access to the Midtown Greenway.
