Two dead after truck and car collide in Chisago County

Two people, one a Minnesota teen, died after a passenger vehicle and a car carrier truck collided, causing a series of explosions and a fire shortly before 8 p.m. Friday on Hwy. 8 in Chisago County, according to the State Patrol.

Two people, one a Minnesota teen,  died after a passenger vehicle and a car carrier truck collided, causing a series of explosions and a fire shortly before 8 p.m. Friday on Hwy. 8 in Chisago County, according to the State Patrol.

The passenger vehicle,  a GMC Jimmy , was driven by an 18-year-old from Shafer, Minn.

The carrier truck driver was a  49-year-old man from Phoenix, Ariz.

The Minnesota State Patrol  website said the teen driver crossed the center line and hit the car carrier around 7:40 p.m., causing the truck to veer off  the road.

Hwy. 8 near James Avenue was shut down in both directions for several hours late Friday night.
