Pit bull destroyed after attack on dachshund

Last update: May 9, 2008 - 4:40 PM

A pit bull that attacked a dachshund in a Duluth neighborhood last week has been destroyed, police said today.

"Our investigation led us to the conclusion that Loki was responsible for the attack," police said in a news release.

Loki attacked and seriously injured the dachshund on May 1 in front of a home on North 56th Avenue W.

The dog's owners, Tara and Jason Williams, "agreed to relinquish ownership" of Loki in order to have the dog destroyed.

The Duluth News Tribune reported today that three pit bulls owned by the Williamses killed a neighbor's dog in November. The paper added that reports vary on whether the neighbor's dog was in the Williamses' yard at the time.

After that attack, Loki was declared a "dangerous animal." That required Loki to be kept in a kennel or leashed and muzzled while outside, the newspaper said.
