Driver thrown from vehicle in fiery and fatal rollover

Last update: May 6, 2008 - 10:15 AM

A fiery rollover car crash in northwestern Minnesota killed one person early today, authorities said.

The driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix was heading north on Hwy. 75 in northern Polk County about 1 this morning, when the vehicle drifted onto the shoulder, prompting the motorist to overcorrect, the State Patrol said.

The car crossed both lanes of the highway, northeast of Grand Forks, went into a ditch and struck the ditch embankment, the patrol said.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle, and the car caught fire, the patrol said.

The motorist's identity has yet to be released.
