May 5: Woman jumps from window to escape attacker near the U

Last update: May 28, 2008 - 1:51 PM

A 20-year-old woman broke her ankle after jumping from a second-story window to flee a man who broke into her apartment off the University of Minnesota campus and sexually assaulted her early Sunday, Minneapolis police said Monday.

It was the second sexual assault in as many weeks in the area.

The woman was confronted early Sunday by the stranger inside her apartment in the Como/University of Minnesota neighborhood, where she was sexually assaulted, police said. After jumping from the window and breaking her ankle, she went to a friend's house to safety.

Sgt. Jesse Garcia said Monday that police do not have a suspect description.

On April 27, an 18-year-old freshman was grabbed by two men and sexually assaulted in a men's restroom in Pioneer Hall, a U residence hall. No one has been arrested in that attack.
