Loretta Shefland turned 100 in 2011.

She celebrated with multiple birthday parties and a Caribbean Cruise. The parties were a reflection of her life - with friends from St. Luke's where she volunteered and worshiped, with friends from the Mpls Hiking Club where she experienced adventure and fellowship for over 80 years, and with family where she provided leadership, wisdom and great food for years.

Grandma was always ready with a homemade pie or batch of cookies for any occasion. She volunteered for meals on wheels and for years delivered meals to people younger than she was. She often had a story or joke to bring others joy. Loretta died on the 100th birthday of Girl Scouts. She spent a lot of years volunteering for the Girl Scouts and supporting her daughters in the organization.

The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of Courage, Confidence and Character. Grandma did that for her Children, Grandchildren, and others around her. She was an inspiration to us all. She enjoyed travelling and she liked to hear about the travels of others. She liked to call when she returned home to let people know she was safely home. She liked it when people would call her when they returned home, even if she didn't know we had left.

One of the things I miss is being able to call and tell Grandma I'm home.
