Twin Cities Marathon field already 75 percent full

Last update: April 29, 2008 - 8:07 AM

Runners still pondering whether or not to sign up for the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon don't have much time left to make a decision. As of Monday, only 2,500 spots remain for the 26.2-mile race which will be held on Oct. 5, race officials said.

Registration began April 18 and the field of 11,000 participants is expected to fill this week.

"With the Bank of America Chicago Marathon filling last week, we're starting to see an increase in runners from around the country who may still be seeking the perfect spot for their fall marathon," said Virginia Brophy Achman, executive director of the Twin Cities Marathon.

Runners from all 50 states and 16 countries have paid the $95 entry fee to compete in the race, which begins at the Metrodome in Minneapolis and ends at the State Capitol in St. Paul.

The Twin Cities Marathon is the 10th largest marathon in the country, based on the number of finishers in 2007.

For registration information for the marathon and related events, see www.mtcmarathon.org.
