Minneapolis has two homicides

Last update: April 26, 2008 - 10:14 PM

Minneapolis' 12th and 13th homicides of 2008 were recorded on Saturday.

Police were called to an address in the 1100 block of 18th Avenue N. shortly before 4:30 p.m.

They found a female inside the residence who appeared to be the victim of a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's name and age were not released. Police had no suspects in custody Saturday evening but were following leads.

Also Saturday, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office ruled that the body of a man found Friday night on the banks of the Mississippi River in south Minneapolis was a homicide victim.

The medical examiner's office did not release his identity or the exact cause of his death.

A citizen called 911 before 8:30 p.m. Friday to report finding the body just south of E. Lake Street off West River Parkway, near a makeshift transient camp.

"It doesn't appear to be someone that was out for a walk or a jog," Minneapolis police spokesman Sgt. Jesse Garcia said.

Police had no suspects as of Saturday evening.

In both cases, police are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS line at 612-692-TIPS.
