Icy roads may have played a role in state's 70th traffic fatality of 2008.
A woman from Pipestone, Minn. was killed Monday morning in a two-car accident in Rock County. She was identified by the State Patrol as Geraldine Daniels, 57.
Daniels was heading south on Hwy. 75 around 10 a.m. when she lost control of the 1989 Buick Park Avenue she was driving 3 miles north of Luverne, Minn. The car crossed the center line and hit an oncoming Chevy Silverado driven by Robert Feikema head-on, the patrol said.
Daniels, who was not wearing a seat belt, died in surgery at a hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Feikema, 59, of Luverne, Minn., was injured in the crash. His wife, Arla, 58, was a passenger in the pickup truck and also was injured. Both of them were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
Icy roads might have played a role in the accident, which is still under investigation.
