Ely being sold? Remember the date when reading this

Last update: April 1, 2008 - 8:32 AM

Today is April 1, 2008, and here is the latest on this notable date: Some folks in Ely, Minn., announced today that Canada has offered to buy the town and move it north of the border.

"Keep Ely in Minnesota! Could Canadian deal to buy Ely be final by early 2009?" reads the headline on www.ely.org.

Yes, it's an April Fool's joke. It's an effort to promote the northern Minnesota gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

The joke goes on to offer a petition to keep Ely in Minnesota.
