Bullet passes through apartment window in Columbia Heights

No one was hurt, and police are not sure if anybody was inside the unit when shots rang out around 10:25 p.m. on the 4700 block of University Avenue NE.

Police in Columbia Heights are looking for at least two men involved in a shooting late Tuesday in which a bullet passed through an apartment window, said Sgt. Lenny Austin.

No one was hurt, and police are not sure if anybody was inside the unit when shots rang out around 10:25 p.m. on the 4700 block of University Avenue NE.

Austin said it was still unclear what led to the incident in which several shots were fired. Police recovered shell casings at the scene and determined that the suspects used a small caliber handgun.

No one had been arrested as of Thursday morning.

Police said two people were seen running from the scene. One of the suspects is described as a black male between 18 and 22 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches, 130 pounds and short hair. A second suspect is a black male between 18 and 22, about 6 feet 1 inch, 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded-type sweatshirt.

Austin said a third suspect might be involved. That person was wearing a yellow jacket.
