Anoka County again cuts property taxes

The Anoka County Board voted last Tuesday for a 2013 budget that would decrease the county's property-tax collections by more than $1 million.
The vote was unanimous, although later in the week one commissioner mused about the pluses and minuses of the approach.
"What a great time to do some things," Jim Kordiak, the only board member not running for election this year, said Friday.
"On one hand, I recognize the benefit and importance of growing the infrastructure of Anoka County.
"On the other hand, I understand the importance of keeping costs down, to limit expenses.
"I see the argument from both sides."
The county's estimated 1 percent tax-levy reduction is expected to be finalized in December. It comes on the heels of the current 7.4 percent reduction in the levy for 2012.
Among Minnesota's 87 counties, Stearns was the only other one to reduce the tax levy for 2012.
