Vandals have hit 25 cars in the past two weeks
Police are encouraging residents in six south Minneapolis neighborhoods to park cars in garages or well-lit areas in the wake of a vandalism spree over the past two weeks, police said.
Between March 5 and Sunday, vandals have smashed the windows of more than 25 cars parked on streets in the Bancroft, Bryant, Central, Corcoran, Powderhorn Park and Standish neighborhoods, said Karen Notsch, a crime prevention specialist with Minneapolis police.
The vandalism has occurred at night in the area between 2nd Avenue S. and Hiawatha Avenue and from E. Lake Street to E. 42nd Street.
Notsch said there is very little information on suspects.
In addition to the parking advice, Notsch said residents should keep lights on outside their homes, point video cameras -- if they have them -- to where their car or a neighbor's is parked and report suspicious activity or the sound of breaking glass.
