Two men with extensive criminal records were charged on Wednesday with burglary after about $24,000 was stolen from the French Meadow Bakery & Cafe booth at the Minnesota State Fair.

Eric L. Massey, 50, and Robert Lee Love, 52, both of St. Paul, broke into the office at the Carnes Avenue business and took the money from a safe that had been inadvertently left unlocked, authorities say.

The theft was discovered about 4 a.m. Saturday by Chris Gleize, who operates the booth with his wife.

On Wednesday, Massey made his first court appearance. Love remained at large.

A search warrant said a surveillance video showed two men entering the rear of the business about 10:30 p.m. Friday. A suspect later identified as Love could be seen using a tool to open the office.
