A pickup truck and a car collided head-on late Thursday in Anoka County, killing one driver and sending the other to the hospital, authorities said Friday.

The crash occurred shortly after 11:45 p.m. Thursday on County Road 7, just west of Rum River Central Regional Park in Ramsey, said Fire Chief Dean Kapler.

The car's driver, a 32-year-old man from Nowthen, died at the scene, Kapler said. His name was being withheld pending notification of his family.

The pickup's driver, Andrew Street, 47, of Oak Grove was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids and was "alert and responsive," the chief said.

Street told authorities that he was southbound on County Road 7 and saw the car coming toward him in his lane, said Sheriff's Cmdr. Paul Sommer.

Both vehicles appear to have tried to veer away but wound up hitting head-on.
