Best Buy and Intel Computer Clubhouse Network are planning to install a Best Buy Teen Tech Center at the Hennepin County Central Library in downtown Minneapolis, one of only four sites in the country chosen for the state-of-the-art tech centers.

On Tuesday, a Hennepin County Board committee is expected to accept $100,000 for staffing and programming at the tech center.

The goal of the centers, which also will be in Chicago, Miami and San Antonio, is to help teens grow by using high-end computer equipment and technology in a creative and safe environment. Best Buy and Intel will cover the costs of renovation, equipment and furniture.

The tech center is expected to be finished later this year.

A proposal for the tech center was submitted last spring by the county library and the Friends of the Hennepin County Library, an independent nonprofit that supports and promotes the library system. The Friends group is the library's fiscal agent for the agreement.
