Sex offender receives 11-year sentence for two Minneapolis attacks

A convicted sex offender will spend the next 11 years in prison for consecutive sexual assaults on two women.

Anthony Legrette Farrar, 23, of Robbinsdale, received the sentence Thursday for the March attacks on the women in Minneapolis. A seven-year sentence for a burglary conviction stemming from the second assault will run at the same time as the 11-year sentence.

Judge David Piper gave Farrar 135 months in prison, with lifetime conditional release following his guilty plea June 28 to second-degree criminal sexual conduct and burglary charges.

According to charges, on March 22 Farrar followed a woman off the bus near the University of Minnesota, forced her between two buildings and groped her. The woman fought and screamed, and Farrar fled when someone looked out the window from one of the homes.

Just before noon the next day, Farrar walked through a woman's unlocked apartment door in the 300 block of Oak Grove Street. The man said he was looking for Ian. When she told him he had the wrong apartment and to leave, he put his hand over her mouth and began dragging her into the apartment away from the door. She struggled and was able to bang his head against the wall and escape. He grabbed her messenger bag with her cellphone, headphones and papers and fled, charges said.

Farrar was originally charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct.

Last fall, he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct for groping a woman in Roseville. He was placed on supervised probation for 10 years and ordered to register as a sex offender.
