Three teenage boys drove sports cars along a Fargo interstate at speeds beyond the reach of the typical speedometer before being arrested, authorities said Friday.
A North Dakota state trooper spotted the three vehicles -- a Pontiac GTO, a Nissan 350Z and a BMW -- about 11:20 p.m. Thursday heading north on Interstate 29 near I-94 at speeds up to 145 miles per hour, according to the State Patrol.
"For the safety of the trooper and the motoring public," the pursuit was halted near the North Dakota State University campus, said a patrol statement.
Fargo and Moorhead police later located the vehicles and drivers. Because of their ages -- 15, 16 and 17 -- the drivers' identities were not being released.
Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind said that after leaving the interstate, the drivers darkened their headlights and sped along at about 90 mph. It was then that the trooper cut off pursuit, which lasted barely a minute.
