A small-town restaurant co-owner has been charged with embezzling nearly $1 million from a southwest Minnesota bank where she also worked, authorities said Tuesday.

Barbara K. Rechtzigel, 47, of Belview, was charged Monday in federal court in Minneapolis with stealing from CD accounts of customers at Minnwest Bank in Belview, where she was senior operations manager.

Rechtzigel is accused of embezzling the money over 14 years, starting in 1998.

The charge was filed via information, which means that Rechtzigel intends to plead guilty. That would mean a potential sentence of nearly 30 years in prison.

Rechtzigel and her husband, Ken, have owned the Brauhaus Restaurant and Bar on Main Street in Lucan, Minn., since 2008.
