The winter chill is back, at least for the next two days as temperatures will fall below zero at night and wind chill values will make it feel as cold as minus 20 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
The mercury has not fallen below zero since Feb. 21, but tonight's expected low of minus 7 will mark the 29th time this winter season the temperature has registered 0 degrees or colder. Friday's night's low should push that total to 30 as a low of minus 3 is expected, the National Weather Service said.
Daytime temperatures today will be 15 degrees and only 11 degrees on Friday. Blustery winds will create wind chill readings of minus 12 to minus 21 tonight and during the day Friday, the Weather Service said.
The latest bout of Arctic air will be short-lived. By Monday and Tuesday, the two-inches of snow on the ground could be gone as temperatures under sunny skies will soar into the upper 30s and low 40s, the Weather Service said.
