Man found dead in car was Illinois resident

Gregory A. Marek died of self-inflicted injuries, the St. Louis County Sheriff said.

Authorities have identified the man found dead Monday in an abandoned car near Cook, Minn., as Gregory A. Marek, the St. Louis County Sheriff said. He died of self-inflicted injuries, the sheriff said.

Deputies responding to a call about a car parked on an unmaintained road discovered the body of Marek, 52, of Elgin, Ill., inside.

The vehicle was found on a road north of Hwy. 1 and Carpenter Road in Field Township, west of Cook, Minn.

Illinois authorities had reported Marek missing Feb. 10.
