A Minneapolis woman was injured late Monday afternoon when her apartment caught fire, sending smoke billowing over the treetops, where it was visible to rush-hour commuters on Interstate 94.
When firefighters arrived at the three-story building at 920 E. 19th St. about 4:15 p.m., they found flames shooting from two windows on the third floor. The 40 firefighters on the scene had the flames under control within 10 minutes as apartment residents looked on from the street.
Deputy Fire Chief Mike Dickinson said the woman in the third-floor apartment where the fire started suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital.
Dickinson said residents living on the first and second floor likely would be back in their homes Monday night. He wasn't sure when the third-floor residents would be allowed to return.
