Icy road, heavy fog contribute to three deaths in two crashes

Last update: February 25, 2008 - 8:31 PM

A man from Savage died after he lost control of his car on an icy interstate highway in northern Iowa early Monday.

The Iowa State Patrol said Bradley Clark Jamison was southbound on Interstate Hwy. 35 just south of the Minnesota state line when he lost control of his car.

The patrol said Jamison's car hit a car parked on the shoulder of the highway. The driver of the parked car was helping other motorists whose cars had gone into the ditch in the icy conditions.

The patrol says Jamison died instantly in the crash.

In central Minnesota, a collision between a van and a pickup truck killed two people at a foggy intersection, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The wreck occurred late Sunday morning in Randall, in what the patrol described as "very low visibility" amid dense fog.

The van was headed west on Country Road 14 in Morrison County when it collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Hwy. 10, the patrol said.

Killed were van driver Bernard Dombovy, 62, and his passenger, Katrina Mitchell, 23, both of Royalton, Minn. Dombovy was wearing his seat belt but Mitchell was not, the patrol said.

A family of three from Avon, Minn., in the pickup suffered minor injuries. All three were wearing seat belts.
