Feds nab suspect in three Twin Cities bank robberies

Last update: February 21, 2008 - 12:20 PM

A suspect in three Twin Cities bank robberies in about a month has been indicted in federal court, the U.S. attorney's office said today.

David L. Barnes, 52, of Bloomington is accused of armed robberies of TCF branches in Cub Foods stores in Roseville and Arden Hills, and a traditional branch on New Brighton Boulevard in Minneapolis. The robber came away with cash of $4,278, $1,427 and $150, the attorney's office said.

In the Minneapolis heist, he was holding a bouquet of flowers when he approached a teller, pulled out a gun and demanded cash, authorities said.

Police in Bloomington arrested Barnes on Jan. 11 in connection with a shoplifting and assault incident at a Wal-Mart. His clothing at the time of his arrest matched that worn by the suspect in the Roseville and Minneapolis bank robberies, a federal affidavit said.
