Bryn Mawr residents warned of break-ins

Residents in south Minneapolis also warned

Last update: February 12, 2008 - 11:45 AM

Lock your doors. Turn lights on. Report suspicious activity. That's the advice Minneapolis police are giving residents of the Bryn Mawr neighborhood where burglars struck three times last week.

A fourth burglary was reported in January.

The burglaries have taken place in the northern portion of the neighborhood on Penn, Oliver and Chestnut avenues. Two of the burglaries took place between midnight and 4 a.m. and two in broad daylight, police said.

Police said most burglars are caught because somebody saw something suspicious and called 911. Police said suspicious activity includes unrecognized cars cruising slowly down an alley or street, individuals going door to door or peering into people's yards or windows.

The crime alert for  Bryn Mawr comes just days after police warned residents in six south Minneapolis neighborhoods about burglars who are forcing their way into apartment buildings, rental units and garages. The alert was issued in connection with thefts in the Kingfield, East Harriet, Linden Hills, Fulton, Lynhurst and Tangletown neighborhood, with many occurring on Friday mornings.
