Michael Davis, Brooklyn Park's first black police chief, is sworn in

Michael Davis was sworn in Monday as the new police chief in Brooklyn Park.

Davis, 36, is the city's first black police chief and the fourth chief in the city's history.

He succeeds Wade Setter, who retired in August after 28 years in the department.

Davis had worked for 15 years in the Minneapolis Police Department, serving in a variety of roles.

He worked in the internal affairs unit, family violence and as a patrol officer. Most recently, he was a sector lieutenant and shift commander in the Phillips neighborhood.

Davis, a Brooklyn Park resident, has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in organizational management, both from Concordia University in St. Paul.

He was selected from 45 applicants during a nationwide search, city spokeswoman Mary Tan said.
