Authorities have identified an 87-year-old man who died Friday afternoon when he drove the wrong way and collided with a semitrailer truck on a Winona County highway.
Roger D. Papenfuss, of Winona, was driving a car the wrong way on Hwy. 61 near Milepost 16 when he collided with the southbound truck, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash caused both vehicles to catch fire. The highway was closed for nearly 20 miles in both direction as crews fought the fire for more than an hour.
The truck driver, Robert J. Siebenaler, 65, of Lewiston, Minn., was not hurt.
