• Driver distraction contributes to about 20 percent of all crashes. It led to 208 deaths and nearly 26,000 injuries from 2008 through 2010.
• Minnesota, 34 other states and the District of Columbia forbid texting while driving. Nine states, not including Minnesota, and D.C. bar hand-held cellphone use. No states forbid the use of hands-free devices for all drivers.
