BOYD, Minn. - A baby girl has died after her mother suffered a medical condition and fell on top of her in western Minnesota.

KSAX-TV (http://bit.ly/GSjmek) reports authorities were called Thursday evening to a home in rural Boyd. When deputies arrived, they found 28-year-old Joyce Whitmore unresponsive and on top of her 15-day-old baby, Skylar Shipley.

Police say the baby suffocated.

Both were taken to the Dawson hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead. Whitmore was airlifted to another hospital in serious condition.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating along with the Lac qui Parle County sheriff's office, but foul play is not suspected.
