At least five people were killed in crashes on Minnesota roads over the weekend.

A man and a woman died Sunday in Otter Tail County in a head-on collision, the Sheriff's Department said.

The crash is under investigation. Killed was a 48-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man. Their names were not released pending notification of relatives.

Other fatal weekend crashes involved a 58-year-old Maplewood man, thrown from his pickup truck after colliding with another pickup in southeastern Minnesota late Saturday. David. L. Buol died early Sunday in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Wabasha about 90 minutes after the accident, the State Patrol said.

Buol was northbound on Hwy. 61, turned left onto Squaw Valley Road a few miles south of Wabasha and collided with the other truck, which was southbound on Hwy 61.

Buol was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from his vehicle, troopers said.

Also injured, but not seriously, were James C. Mason, 57, of Plainview, and his passenger, Sybil Dankers, 45, of Zumbrota. They were wearing seat belts.

In another crash, Gregory S. Stanton, 60, of Winnebago, Ill., was killed in a rollover crash on Hwy. 61 in Goodhue County shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday when he veered off the highway near County Road 31. His vehicle rolled several times. Stanton was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene.

In a fatal crash in Crow Wing County, a Crosby man died late Saturday when his pickup collided head-on with a car on Hwy. 6, about 5 miles north of Crosby. Russell D. Fort, 67, was pronounced dead at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, Ronald Kapaun, 52, of Hudson, Wis., and his 52-year-old passenger were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol allegedly was detected in Kapaun and also in his passenger, troopers said.

Fort was not wearing a seat belt, but Kapaun and his passenger were buckled up, the patrol said.
