Although its flying duties are scheduled to be transferred elsewhere, Minnesota's Air Force Reserve 934th Airlift Wing brings in $128 million a year in jobs, contracts and construction projects, according to a recently released annual report. The report is usually a routine thing, but the numbers will take on added significance as the wing, which flies eight C-130 cargo planes, is scheduled to transfer its aviation function by the end of 2013.
According to the report, the wing's 1,942 civilian and military jobs bring in $64.9 million. Construction projects and goods and services purchased by the wing bring in an additional $33.5 million. With $29.5 million from indirect jobs added, the total economic impact adds up to $128 million. The military installation on the northern portion of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is expected to be turned over to the Minnesota Air National Guard, all part of a consolidation of Air Force resources to cut at least $54 billion from its budget.
