What is the NTSB?

The National Transportation Safety Board is an independent federal agency that seeks to ensure that all types of U.S. transportation are conducted safely. The NTSB investigates all civil aviation accidents and significant accidents in other modes of transportation. It conducts special investigations and safety studies and makes recommendations to government agencies, the transportation industry and others on safety measures and practices. The NTSB consists of five members appointed by the president, with the advice and consent of the Senate, to five-year terms.
