Experts urge people who have been victimized by con artists to report the crime immediately. In addition to local police, here are some places to contact:

Minnesota attorney general: www.ag.state.mn.us, 651-296-3353 or 1-800 657-3787 for the consumer hotline to file a complaint or for numerous consumer-protection resources.

Better Business Bureau: minnesota.bbb.org or 651-699-1111 or 1-800-646-6222 to file a complaint over a dispute with a business or over advertising or to check out a business.

Minnesota Department of Public Safety: www.mnscams.org or 1-866-347-0911 to report fraudulent lottery, sweepstakes or similar crimes.

Minnesota Senior LinkAge Line: 1-800-333-2433 to report Medicare errors or fraud.

AARP Minnesota: 1-866-554-5381 for consumer-protection information or for training to help educate older Minnesotans about how to avoid fraud and scams.

U.S. Office of Financial Protection for Older Americans: www.consumerfinance.gov/older-americans for more resources.
