A teenage deer hunter who accidentally shot himself was trying to take off his jacket at the time in a deer stand near his home in east-central Minnesota, authorities said.

Jeremiah D. Scofield, 15, suffered the fatal gunshot wound to his upper inner leg Monday afternoon in Brunswick Township, south of Mora, according to the Kanabec County Sheriff's Office.

The Mora High School sophomore was holding his gun between his legs, when it went off as he was removing his jacket, the Sheriff's Office said.

He was the fourth hunter to die since Saturday's start of Minnesota's firearms deer season. One of them died of natural causes.
