U set to open wind research station in Rosemount

  • Updated: October 23, 2011 - 9:24 PM

The University of Minnesota will flip the switch on a new wind research station this week at the university's UMore Park property in Rosemount.

The research station includes a 420-foot wind turbine and a 426-foot meteorological research tower. The facility will host research into wind energy and train workers for the industry.

The station is the product of a $7.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to the University of Minnesota and its private-sector partners. It was one of three such partnerships to receive a grant in 2009.

The public commissioning ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
