Pianist dies while playing hymn before congregation

Last update: January 4, 2008 - 11:21 AM

Julie Davis died with a song at her fingertips.

Davis, 53, of Fargo, was playing the piano for New Year's Day church services at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Casselton, N.D., when she died.

She suffered a massive stroke while playing the opening hymn, her daughter, Sarah Davis of Minneapolis, told the Fargo Forum newspaper.

According to the Forum, about 100 people were in attendance when Davis warmed up and played "Ave Maria" on the piano.

During the opening hymn, Davis collapsed and was taken from the sanctuary, the newspaper said.

Services for Davis were scheduled for this morning in the same church.
