Christmas almost here in one part of Minneapolis

Last update: January 4, 2008 - 9:03 PM

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas this weekend -- at least in one section of northeast Minneapolis.

Russian Orthodox observers will mark the holiday starting Sunday with Christmas Eve services at St. Mary's Orthodox Cathedral, NE. 1701 5th St. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. and include a procession with two choirs.

On Christmas Day, Monday, services begin at 10 a.m.

The liturgical year of old-calendar Orthodox churches is similar to the Julian calendar, which is 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar used in the West -- and by most Orthodox churches here.

For more information, call the Rev. John Magramm at 763-574-1001 or visit www.skete.info.
